To aid with the Daylight Savings Time setup for new and existing users of OggSync, version 2.18 was released today with a “Timezone” Wizard/Worksheet. New users will be given information about their phone’s current timezone setting, given verification that the correct patches have been applied to for their device, and allows you to specify the Google Timezone in the event that it isn’t set correctly.
All users are advised to backup their current calendar before attempting to patch for Daylight savings and/or adjust their timezone. (how to backup here)
Once you are backed up, existing users should unsync their device before applying the daylight savings time patch.
Another minor change is that the google password is NOT hidden the first time you enter it so that you may verify you are entering the correct characters on your device. Once entered, however, the password is always hidden and encrypted, and never leaves your phone (for both regular gmail accounts and Google hosted domain accounts).
This version is turned on for “auto-upgrade”.
2.18 adds additional timezone robustness as well as better data cleansing for Google.

Good Job.
One note though… i have the 700wx and the microsoft patch totally screws up my calender…
i had to revert to a backup… it works fine without the patch… Should i just leave it as is ?
Thanks.
Comment by lowspeed — March 13, 2007 @ 9:36 pmDo you mean your phone calendar or google calendar or both? You should unsync before applying the patch (although we’ve had reports that it’s ok if the patch is just applied, and other reports that it shifts times by 1 hour). Best is to apply the patch because OggSync sends new events to google in GMT and new events will be off by 1 hour if you don’t apply the patch (during the new DST period). But if you can live with it as is, only a few weeks until the “new” DST period is over and patching during the summer may go better for you.
So suggested method is:
1) Backup always everything
2) Unsync your calendar (uncheck your calendar then sync)
3) apply timezone patch
4) Look at your phone, adjust any items that moved based on your resync
5) Recheck and resync your calendar
If you use Activesync, perform their recommended protections during step 3.
Comment by OggSync — March 13, 2007 @ 10:01 pmLooks very promising, i’ve just got myself a year’s subscription.
One quick question though, how easy would it be to add a setting to the Options page for what is synchronised, i.e. Phone to Google, Google to Phone or full synch.
r.
Comment by Rob — March 26, 2007 @ 2:05 pmLooks great, i’ve just bought a year’s subscription.
Couple of quick things though…
1. It doesn’t always seem to synch all day events. I haven’t worked out the pattern of when it does or doesn’t. On all day events that span several days sometimes it’s just showing them on one day or not at all. Other one day all day events appear or don’t import, whilst some do. Odd. Doesn’t seem to matter what calendar they are in (i’m subscribing to about
.
2. How tricky would it be to add a synch direction option to the app, i.e. Google to Phone only, Phone to Google only or both ways. Also having a setting that sets priority if an appointment has been updated on Google or the Phone, that tells the system which one to overwrite.
