Installation
Getting started with OggSync is straightforward. Follow these steps to install the application on your Windows computer.
System Requirements
- Windows 10 or later (Windows 7/8 also supported)
- Microsoft Outlook 2010 or later
- .NET Framework 4.5 or later
- Active internet connection
Installation Steps
- Download the OggSync installer from the download page
- Run the downloaded
OggSyncSetup.exefile - Follow the installation wizard prompts
- Launch OggSync from the Start menu or system tray
Tip: OggSync installs to your user profile by default and doesn't require administrator privileges.
Google Authorization
OggSync needs permission to access your Google Calendar. This is done through Google's secure OAuth system.
Authorizing Access
- When you first launch OggSync, click "Connect Google Account"
- Your browser will open to Google's sign-in page
- Sign in with the Google account you want to sync
- Review the permissions and click "Allow"
- Return to OggSync - you should see your Google calendars listed
Important: OggSync only requests the minimum permissions needed for calendar sync. We never access your email or other Google services.
Google Workspace Accounts
If you use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), the authorization process is the same. However, your organization's administrator may need to approve OggSync for use with your domain.
Your First Sync
Once connected, you're ready to synchronize your calendars.
- Select which Google calendar you want to sync from the dropdown
- Choose the Outlook calendar folder to sync with (usually "Calendar")
- Click the "Sync Now" button
- Wait for the initial sync to complete - this may take a few minutes depending on how many events you have
After the initial sync, subsequent syncs are much faster as only changed events are processed.
Settings & Configuration
Access OggSync settings by right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting "Settings".
Sync Window
Configure how far back and forward OggSync should sync events. The default is 365 days in each direction. Reducing this can speed up sync times if you have many old events.
Sync Direction
By default, OggSync performs two-way sync. You can change this to:
- Two-way: Changes sync in both directions (default)
- Google to Outlook: Only pull changes from Google
- Outlook to Google: Only push changes to Google
Conflict Resolution
When the same event is modified in both calendars between syncs, you can choose which version wins:
- Most recent wins: The last-modified version is kept
- Google wins: Google Calendar version is always kept
- Outlook wins: Outlook version is always kept
Multiple Calendars (Pro)
With OggSync Pro, you can sync multiple Google calendars simultaneously.
Adding Additional Calendars
- Go to Settings > Calendars
- Click "Add Calendar"
- Select the Google calendar from the dropdown
- Choose or create an Outlook folder for this calendar
- Configure sync settings for this calendar pair
Calendar Mapping
You can map multiple Google calendars to separate Outlook folders, or combine them into a single view. The choice depends on how you prefer to organize your schedule.
Scheduled Sync (Pro)
Set up automatic synchronization so you never have to think about it.
Configuring Auto-Sync
- Go to Settings > Schedule
- Enable "Automatic Sync"
- Set your preferred sync interval (5 minutes to 24 hours)
- Optionally, set specific times when sync should run
OggSync runs quietly in the background and syncs according to your schedule.
Contacts & Tasks (Pro)
Beyond calendars, OggSync Pro can also synchronize your contacts and tasks.
Contacts Sync
Sync your Google Contacts with Outlook's address book. Contact photos, phone numbers, emails, and addresses are all synchronized.
Tasks Sync
Keep your Google Tasks and Outlook Tasks in sync. Task titles, due dates, and completion status are synchronized.
Troubleshooting
Sync Errors
If you encounter sync errors, check the sync log (Settings > View Log) for detailed information. Common issues include:
- Authorization expired: Re-authorize your Google account
- Network error: Check your internet connection
- Outlook not responding: Restart Outlook and try again
Reset Sync
If calendars get out of sync, you can perform a full reset:
- Go to Settings > Advanced
- Click "Reset Sync State"
- Choose whether to keep Google or Outlook as the master
- Run a full sync
Warning: Resetting sync state will re-process all events. Make sure you've selected the correct master calendar to avoid data loss.
